For Amitha Amarasinghe, digital marketing has never been about chasing platforms or trends. It has been about understanding how technology reshapes business and helping organisations and professionals evolve alongside it. With a career spanning more than two decades, he is widely regarded as one of Sri Lanka’s early architects of modern digital marketing practice. Beginning his journey in 2004, Amitha has worked at the intersection of strategy, execution, and leadership, playing a defining role in how digital marketing matured locally and how it is now adapting to the AI era.
Amitha’s professional journey spans more than two decades, beginning in 2004 at Roomsnet International (Pvt) Ltd, where he worked hands-on across online marketing, CRM, email marketing, and social media initiatives. This early exposure to eCommerce operations reinforced his belief that digital marketing must always be measurable and closely aligned with business performance.
That foundation expanded significantly during his decade-long tenure at Neo@Ogilvy / Ogilvy Digital Sri Lanka. Serving as Chief Operating Officer from 2010 to 2020, he played a central role in building the organisation’s digital division from the ground up , overseeing operations, shaping digital strategy for leading brands, and ensuring consistent execution across complex, large-scale campaigns.
Today, as Co-Founder and CEO of the Asia Pacific Institute of Digital Marketing (APIDM), Amitha continues to operate at the intersection of leadership, strategy, and transformation, while also advising organisations independently as a Digital Business Transformation Consultant.
Amitha’s influence extends far beyond the boardroom. He served as the Founding President of the Digital Marketing Association of Sri Lanka (DMASL) in 2020 and currently holds the position of Deputy President of the Marketing Alumni Association (USJ) for 2026/27. His strategic work has been recognized with multiple Silver Effie Awards for his contributions to campaigns for Nestomalt and Maliban. Furthermore, he is a social entrepreneur, having co-founded Parenting.lk, the first Sinhala-medium parenting content portal in Sri Lanka.
A graduate of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura with a BSc in Marketing Management (2003), Amitha also holds an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM, 2010). He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (MCIM, UK). His academic background, combined with over 22 years of hands-on experience, allows him to provide a level of strategic depth that bridges traditional marketing fundamentals with cutting-edge digital transformation.
"For me, the best part of teaching is seeing a student realize they are capable of mastering something new. "
I love guiding people through challenges and watching their confidence grow during the learning process. What drives me as a trainer is more than just sharing information; it is about helping people reach their personal goals. I don’t just want to teach a subject; I want to understand where my students are trying to go in their careers and help them get there.
I aim to impact my learners by giving them practical skills they can use immediately. Ultimately, the biggest reward is hearing stories of success. When a former student tells me they got a promotion or changed their career path because of my training, it reminds me exactly why I love what I do.
Amitha believes that training is only successful when it delivers practical skills that can be used immediately. He brings an energy to the classroom that is rooted in real-world application and a deep-seated passion for mentorship. When he isn't re-engineering business models or leading the next generation of marketers, Amitha is a self-proclaimed enthusiast of 90’s culture, the Matrix, and Cricket. An ardent lover of cats, he is known for his approachable nature, and willing to talk for an hour on any of these topics to anyone who shares his curiosity. For Amitha, digital marketing is more than a career; it’s a lifelong journey of helping others find their path in an ever-changing world.
